Living in Salisbury I feel I am extremely priveliged that I have so many amazing walks and ancient sites to look at whether its Stonehenge, the amazing bridal ways that are over huge tracts of Wiltshire’s gorgeous countryside, or the beautiful Sarum castle that hosts jousting and re-enactments at different times of the year.
Salisbury is also host to the Salisbury International Arts Festival at the end of May through to the beginning of June that always has some amazing performances and great activities set up for anyone needing to take part. If like to travel however and can’t wait till then I know there is the Budapest Spring Festival coming up at the end of March first week in April that could be well worth a look with an equally dramatic ancient city.
Wiltshire is known for its walks and cycling tracks with some amazing landscapes to go through. Some of the roman roads carries you most of the way down to Cornwall which enables people on a shoe string to get on their cycle and ride. As we steadily move in the direction of spring time the quantity of gorgeous hot air balloons flying through the air increases, with most offering the ability of people booking for a ride.
There are lots of picturesque villages around Wiltshire with village community life taking a hand in how the areas grow, this ensures that there is frequently something going on in the area. Its worth checking local newspapers to discover what’s on in Wiltshire, or going online and checking one of several community information websites online.
The ancient side of Salisbury and the locality has been further enhanced by the efforts of the fantastic archaeological team that is based on the outskirts of Salisbury. With one of its people on the team of the renowned “Time Team” from channel 4, they are gradually stripping back the layers disguising what has been before us. several of their finds can be seen in the Salisbury Museum which has a fantastic collection of ancient items.
You can find information about the locality by popping into the Salisbury visitor information centre and talking to the people there, they will help inform you of events that are occurring at the time, or put you in the right route if you want to view certain items in the locality. As I talked about in the beginning of this article I am very lucky to be in Wiltshire and only advise that you find out what is accessible before you come so that you can give yourself enough time.
